Telkom is currently the main owner of fibre in South Africa. It has laid down about alt
108,000km of cable, and the next closest (a private operator) has laid down less then 20,000km.

IDC analyst, Spiwe Chireka asked our very own Rob Lith and a few other experts in the industry how feasible it is for SA to develop a competitive fibre connectivity market under such monopolistic circumstances. They also discuss the action that needs to be taken to improve the situation.
